Especially Jim Beam (Jeb). Hints of coconut and caramel. I think that a whiskey with a hint of cinnamon would go well in a cold and bleak setting. Rust Hills description of a manhattan (from the book How to do Things Right: The Revelations of a Fussy Man): "A manhattan is a much underrated drink: it is kind of sticky and you certainly wouldn't want it every night or even every other night; but it is a cheerful drink, and if it is cold and bleak (the weather, I mean) and you wish you had an open fire, a manhattan is good, perhaps because the cherry in it has soem of the same warm color."
